We have remote and semi remote equipment which is predominantly used in our nuclear works. We often prepare bespoke equipment for our projects and have a number of innovative systems for both metal and concrete cutting processes. Our close working relationship with our specialist suppliers allows us to bring the latest technologically advanced equipment into the field to maximise our output.
BD Nuclear is able to cut both metals and concrete with diamond wire. The wire is run on a pulley system and the type of wire, length of wire, running speed and pressure are vital to enabling a fast clean cut. If these parameters are not correct the cutting efficiency can drop significantly; hence the need for a specialist operator. BD Nuclear has over 8 years’ experience in cutting metal with wire with nearly 1 million man hours undertaken in the Nuclear Environment so we understand the requirements of the industry as well as the capabilities of our equipment.
Capacity is virtually unlimited as the wire length can be adjusted to suit the task. If a bespoke machine is required it can be manufactured to allow its dimensions to suit its intended throughput.
We can operate our systems remotely or semi remotely with minimal manual intervention. The machines run on a 3 Phase 400V Power Supply, nominally 16/32A.
Water cooling is normally used on concrete cutting only to extend the life of the wire but this can be undertaken dry with adequate ventilation. BD Nuclear has perfected water recycling for our concrete works and this allow solids to be filtered air dried and disposed via solid waste routes.
Metal cutting does not normally require auxiliary cooling but this can be introduced by using air or even CO2 if a shorter wire is needed.
We also undertake plunge cutting, track sawing and core drilling on concrete structures and these are usually wet operations.
BD Nuclear is able to test, trial and develop equipment at our Portsmouth UK premises.
